Whales and Dolphins Ambassador Program

Workshop Project

Purpose: The “Whales & Dolphins Ambassador Program” workshop provides the opportunity for youth to develop skills in visual art through drawing, painting, and three-dimensional works while producing art with environmental purpose.

Peggy Oki will engage and inspire participants as they learn about general natural history of whales. Through this appreciation, we will draw and paint whales. Upon informing students as to some current anthropogenic threats to cetaceans (whales and dolphins), including commercial whaling, noise and ocean pollution, they will be offered the opportunity to take non-violent direct action. The workshop will take a group action (upon parental consent) with a one hour period for beach clean-up on the forth day.

The group will also engage in a letter writing campaign, which will include a representation of their visual art. They will also be invited to participate in the Origami Whales Project; a large scale public Environmental Art project to raise awareness about commercial whaling.  We will make Origami Whale Mobiles as a fund-raising project.
